So, as with any new trend, the buzz words are springing up. Here’s one I heard recently: “green-washing.” I don’t know how old it is, but it definitely got my attention. We have seen the phenomenon it describes in other industries, as companies rush to jump aboard the green bandwagon. An example that comes to mind is the auto makers that are releasing full-size SUVs with gas-electric hybrid engines. Often these companies have no comprehensive or legitimate plan for sustainable operations; their rush to be “green” is simply a way to capitalize on a market trend. |
